The newest member of the AKM…..
Phil is joining AKM as part of our admin and IT team for the next 7
months. Phil is here to primarily help out whilst Tammy is off on
maternity leave in May, and will be focusing on ensuring that the
same high level of service is delivered whilst she is away.
Phil comes from a hospitality background and after achieving all
that he can within that industry has decided to embark on a new
career within IT. We are very excited about Phil joining the team as
he brings with him loads of experience within a customer focused
environment and has bags of practical knowledge. Whilst Phil isn’t a
full IT engineer yet, we are committed to help him grow his skills
and hope that he will become in a very short period of time an
excellent IT engineer for AKM.
Sage
Offers
Further to a recent communication, Sage are increasing the pricing
for the Sage Line 50 Accounts product range on 2nd April 2007.
If you are thinking of upgrading or purchasing the software from
new, it is recommended that you take advantage of this news and get
it ordered before the end of March.
At AKM, we recognise that price increases are never welcome,
especially on a product that your business relies on heavily, so we
have an offer this month on the Sage software to help ‘swallow that

Sage Line 50 2007 – Important software
updates
Important software updates for Sage L50 2007 are available to
download from www.akm-it.co.uk/sage-line50.asp
The updates you require depends on the version you are using. To
check your version number, from the program menu bar, open the Help
menu then choose About.
Update 3
Update 3 introduces a number of program improvements as well as
superseding and replacing Update 1 & 2.
Update 3 should be installed if your current version number is
13.00.xx or 13.01.xx. You do not need to install Update 3 if you are
using v13.02.17.126.
Update 4
Update 4 introduces a number of program improvements and should be
installed if your current program version number is v13.02.17.126.
If your current version number is 13.00.xx or 13.01.xx, Update 3
MUST be installed before installing Update 4. You do not need to
install Update 4 if you are using v13.02.27.0141.

Keep it secret, keep it safe…
A while back I wrote an article about passwords and computer
security. I’m sure most of you took heed and changed your passwords
to something more secure and kept it secret, but have you kept the
security up?
Just a reminder for those of you who forgot or to new customers:
I was once advised by a wise person to treat a password like your
underwear, keep it private and change it regularly.
I’m sure you will all sympathise with this! If you gave your
password away to someone, they have access to all of your documents,
your e-mails and maybe even your prized digital photo collection and
your MP3’s.
Worse still, if you deal with confidential information about, or
that belongs to other people your are obliged under the data
protection act to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands!
We advocate changing your password every month or so and using at
least 8 characters including uppercase, lowercase, numbers and
special characters: eg. P4ssw0rd or f0RG3tful.

Project
Ever wanted to know how well you are doing within your business with

Office 2007 tip
A follow up from last months article, a few of you
have started using the new version of Office version 2007.
This has highlighted a couple of issues with the new XML based file types
that office now uses as we have had a few users that can’t open them
in Office 2003!
Don’t worry, help is at hand. Microsoft have released a
“Compatibility Pack” that allows you to not only open and view new
office documents but also to edit them in their new XML format.
You can get the pack from the following website:

Make sure you have downloaded all of the latest windows updates for
your computer before you install this and also be warned that it is
a 27mb download.
The old fashioned option rather than downloading the compatibility
pack is to simply save as the old binary format from the “Save as”
screen.
Users of the new version, 2007, also have the option to download a
free PDF creator that will let you save most office documents
straight to PDF.
