This is the newest addition to our off-the-shelf systems which could benefit your business.
It is a system that has taken over 3 years to design, develop and perfect and is a system that we at AKM have been using internally to manage our customer contacts.
Because at AKM we do not want to miss any communications or conversations we have with our customers, and because we want to ensure that all of our team knows exactly what the issues are or have been with our customers at a glance, AKM Helpdesk will deliver that service for us.
AKM Helpdesk has many great features to offer a busy business. From customer contact management and call analysis to call history and visual invoice details; it is often the smaller, simpler touches that make the difference to the end users.

The Department Module
The Department module allows you to monitor costs and income to assess the profitability of departments in your business. Sage Line 50 2007 allows you to set up and maintain departmental budgets for the first time. All budgetary information is managed in your base currency.
The following budget methods are available;
Standard - Basic monthly budgeting by individual nominal account record only. You can view your budget, actual and previous year figures. The information can also be viewed in graphical format.
Advanced, Nominal Code - This method is similar to the Standard method but allows you to analyse previous year's budgets, set up budgets for a forecast year and copy budget values to succeeding months.
Advanced, Departmental Overview - With this method you can set up a budget for a department and analyse its costs or income by nominal category.
Advanced, Department In-Depth - With this method you can set up a budget for a department and analyse its cost or income by nominal account. This method gives you the most detailed budget analysis available in Sage Line 50 2007.
How to implement a budget method:
1. Open the 'settings' menu, choose 'company preferences' then click the 'budgeting' tab.
2. Complete as follows; select either 'standard' or 'advanced'
3. For 'advanced' choose from the 'budgeting type' drop-down list what type you want to use. Then from the 'chart of accounts' drop-down list, choose the COA you want to be the default for the budget reports.
4. Save the selections and then close the company preferences window.

Calls to local and national numbers are charged at 1.1p per min
Calls to mobiles (excluding 3G) are charged at 9.9p per min
Calls to 3G mobiles are charged at 22p per min.
12 month contract
Monthly Line rental (charged in advanced) for analogue lines is #12.35, for ISDN2e lines is #28 and ISDN30e lines is #15.
You are only charged for the time spent on the phone, so if it is 3 seconds, then 3 seconds is what would be invoiced so could work out as quite a saving, particularly with mobiles.

The Techie Bit - Windows Vista

Windows Vista is here! After years of development Microsoft's latest operating system is ready. From 31st January 2007 users will be able to purchase Vista with new machines and as a retail option.
Many of you buying new machines will already be aware of a free upgrade being made available on new machine purchases. If you are looking at buying a new machine you should definitely take up the offer but not install the software immediately.
Should you upgrade to Windows Vista? Vista has many new features including:
New intuitive user interface - using the high end performance of modern graphics cards to make windows easier to read and find on the screen.
Browsing and Searching for files is much easier - thumbnails preview the contents of the actual file.
Switching between windows is easier - simply scroll the mouse wheel.
Windows Defender is built in - providing malware and spyware protection.
Internet Explorer 7 is built in - providing an advanced tabbed browsing experience.
Sidebar and Gadgets - providing a place to have common applications running (eg calculator, weather reports or calendar).
Document Protection - when you modify a document a copy is made so that you can revert back in the event of a problem.
Windows Update - added flexibilty to download updates when you are not using the machine, even when the machine is in hibernation mode.

We suggest that unless there is a very good business reason for updating an existing machine you should wait. The recommended specification for a PC running Vista are:
Dual Core Processor
2GB Ram
256MB Graphics Card
Many high end machines bought in the last 6 months may well have this, but the majority of users will not. Running Vista on a lower specification machine is possible but not recommended.
Another thing to check when getting Vista is that it is available in 5 different versions which include different features so if you are in any doubt please contact us to check your requirements.
