Happy New Year!
A lot has happened in the last six months at AKM, but our objectives are still the same;
We want to please you and deliver excellent service.
We are planning very hard for this year and have a number of initiatives we want to introduce,
many of which directly effect our team, that will help us achieve our goals.
We are intending to expand our team over the next 6 months, recruiting a database technician and an office administrator.
Both additions we feel will support the team and the business going forward.
Thank you for your custom, commitment and loyalty over the last 12 months. 2006 will only get better.
Price Changes
Like every business, from time to time we need to review our pricing. We need to remain competitive but ensure that
you are getting value for money. And I believe that it is our experience and knowledge of your systems, our honesty
and integrity that means we can provide a great service that is valued by you.
New pricing can be found HERE
Core Services
“What do you do?”
“What can you offer my business?”
2 questions we are asked regularly, and since the change of management in October 2005, we have reviewed our service
portfolio. Its now smaller but focuses on our team’s strengths and experiences. Sometimes less is better!
We now have 4 core services;
IT, Sage and database support – technical assistance with all your issues, via telephone, fax, e.mail and remotely.
Management Information Systems (MIS) – database design and development tailored to your business needs,
which are often linked to Sage Accounts and Payroll.
Sage L50 – from supply, installation, development, training and advice, we can assist you with the Sage software
product range including Accounts, Payroll, Job Costing and Forecast.
Training – Sage or IT, 1-1 or group sessions, bespoke or structured, the focus is on achieving your objectives and
training needs.
If however you have a need that is not covered above, please talk to us. If we are unable to assist you,
we do have a number of good, qualified companies that we can refer you to, if need be.
The Techie Bit - Home Workers
With the wide availability of broadband connections in the workplace and at home, it is becoming easier and easier for
desk based workers to connect in from their home PCs to complete a days work.
Functions built in to Windows XP allow users to remote control their desktop PCs in the office via Virtual Private Networks.
These generate a tunnel across the internet and allow fast and secure access into the business network via a username and
password.
Any home computer running windows XP connected to broadband can do this.
At the workplace a few changes may need to be made:
A fixed IP address will be required. Many ISPs offer these as part of a broadband service. Prices start from £25 per month.
This gives the home worker a specific address to connect to.
A VPN router and firewall will also be required although networks with a windows server can perform this role it is much
more secure. Routers that allow this start from around £175.
The remote desktop software built in to Windows XP is fantastically simple to use. You literally open a window up that
displays the desktop of your office PC. Log in you can run all of your applications as if you were in the office. To find
