We Passed! |
It's that time again.. as part of our commitment to Sage as an accredited Business Partner, we have to take regular exams on Sage 50 Accounts 2008 and Sage 50 Payroll 2008 to ensure that we can continue to offer the software.
Every year we are tested on our knowledge of the software; user and technical. If we do not achieve a minimum of 90% within the exam, we fail and then can lose our Business Partner accreditation.
Tammy studied hard for the exams and despite some really bizarre questions, passed both the Accounts and Payroll exams with flying colours.
Thanks to Tammy, AKM can continue to support and service all your Sage 50 Accounts and Sage 50 Payroll needs as an accredited Business Partner. |

Personal Notes:
- He loves cats.
- He is obsessed with anything technical.
- He writes music in his spare time.
- He is a big fan of Studio Ghibli - who??.
- His favourite vegetable is celery.

Sage 50 Accounts- Deleting Unwanted Records |
There may be times when you want to remove some of the unused records from Sage Accounts. For example, you may have completed your Year End procedure and want to remove customers and suppliers that you no longer trade with. You may also want to delete old invoices, orders or product records.
To delete unwanted records:
1. Take a backup of your data files. 2. Open the relevant module 3. Select the records that you want to delete then click Delete. 4. To confirm that you want to permanently remove the selected records, click Yes.
Deleting Customer, Supplier, Nominal and Product records
Before you can delete customer, supplier, nominal or product records, you must ensure that there are no transactions linked to them, as you cannot delete any records that have an activity.
You must also check that your product records do not have a Bill of Materials.
Tip: To remove fully paid and reconciled transactions, you can run the Clear Audit Trail option. To remove stock transactions, you can run the Clear Stock option. |

Sage 50 Accounts - SageCover - Price Changes |
As of 1st February 2008, the following price increases were made to Sage 50 Accounts SageCover and SageCover Extra contracts. We suspect that Sage Payroll cover will be reviewed in September when the next version is due out:
| Sage 50 Accounts |
£10 |
| Sage 50 Accounts Plus |
£10 |
| Sage 50 Accounts Professional |
£15 |
We are advised that the new price structure reflects the continued investment in the SageCover service, commitment to ongoing staff training and the increased rate of inflation.
Did you know that AKM provides its own Sage 50 Accounts cover service?
If you would like to find out more about our AKM 'assist' services, please contact Tammy on 0845 459 0076. |

Sage 50 Payroll - Statements of Employment |
Statements of Employment are one of a range of the new features in Sage 50 Payroll 2008. By law, an employer must provide an employee with a statement of employment within two months of their start date. It provides the employee with their terms of employment, for example their notice period and SSP terms.
In Sage 50 Payroll 2008 you can record terms for each employee then issue statements of employment quickly and easily, either for an individual, or for a batch of employee's. If an employee's terms or particulars change, a notification is generated to issue a new statement of employment.
To set up an employee's terms of employment.
1. Select the required employee > Employee > Employee Record > Terms.
2. Complete the following section:
- Notice period
- Period of employment
- SSP Terms and Conditions
Tip: In the blank boxes below each section enter any additional information you want to appear on the statement.
3. Save > Close
Tip: To set up the same terms of employment for more than one employee, use Global Changes > Tasks > Global Changes > Statements of Employment.
To issue a statement of employment
1. Employee > Statement of employment.
Note: If any of the employee's terms or particulars have changed the Reissue column for that employee displays Yes, indicating the statement should be reissued.
2. Select the required employee or employee's > Print. |

VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) |
Breaking down the jargon!
VOIP can be called IP Telephony, Internet telephony, Broadband Telephony, Broadband Phone and Voice Over Broadband. These terms all mean the same thing; instead of a call coming through a phone which is wired into the phone line, it comes through a router which is capable of VOIP e.g. has a connection to the phone line.
So for example, person A uses a land line phone and person B uses a VOIP phone. Person A dials person B's landline number and that then goes through a router to a VOIP phone, which generally have the same appearance as a normal phone. Person B's VOIP phone will ring and they can talk freely as if they were using a regular land line.
Sounds like how a normal phone works though, doesn't it?
VOIP can do all the things that normal phones can, and more! There are a lot of services available to VOIP networks that are easier and in many cases, less expensive to implement. For example, if you want to have more than one phone line in your office, you have to rent or buy another line to use. VOIP however, has the ability to manage many calls without the need for an additional phone line.
The money bit
So you are interested in having a VOIP phone system in your office? There are many providers of VOIP services available on the market. BT now offer a VOIP service and there's Skype too, which has been rapidly growing over the last few years and is a simple way of integrating VOIP into your home/business. If you are making a call from VOIP to VOIP it is free, the only charge in place is for the internet usage. So if you pay a monthly internet bill, that's all you have to pay with no extra cost in that respect. Calls from VOIP to landline numbers cost around 1-2p a minute.
If you are interested in getting a VOIP system, you can contact any of the technical staff who will be happy to answer your questions. |

PC and Monitor Disposals |
Back in 2007 a new directive was introduced about the disposal of electrical items; lovingly referred to as the WEEE Directive.
This directive basically means that all businesses have a responsibility to ensure that all electrical equipment is disposed of properly and securely. You can no longer take your monitor or workstation down to your local tip, they have to be recycled through companies who have a license to dispose of those items and unfortunately there is a cost involved.
We have teamed up with a local company who offers this service, to ensure that any items we acquire are disposed of correctly. If when we are onsite at your premises you have any PC's or monitors that need disposing of we can take them for you, however there would be a small charge involved.
PC/Workstation/Laptop £10.00 + vat per item. CRT/TFT Monitor £10.00 + vat per item. |
